Freedom Fighters – Revived For A Reasonنموونە
Freedom Is For Everyone
Freedom — everyone is obsessed with it. You hear it in the music you listen to, you see it in the crescendo of a movie, and marketers sell you the idea of freedom to get you to buy products. But do you truly know freedom?
When Jesus states, “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free,” in John 8:32; what does that stir in your heart? Do you believe it? Do you live in this freedom? To truly grasp the depth of this statement you need to understand the culture, time and place Jesus was in when He said it.
At the time, the Jewish religion had over 600 rules and regulations to follow. When they were broken they had consequences. The Jewish people understood that if a rule was broken, a punishment was required, and an animal sacrifice was necessary. As a Jew, Jesus lived under these rules and during His lifetime he kept all 600, never breaking one! This makes Him the only person that didn’t need to be punished or make a sacrifice, yet He was the one who made the greatest sacrifice and took the greatest punishment, death.
When Jesus states in Matthew 5:17, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them,” He is saying: ‘I will fulfil and complete the law by becoming the sacrifice to end all sacrifices for everyone.’ He became the sacrificial lamb. Wow! At the time that was a revolutionary action and statement, and it is still the case today.
What’s more, this freedom wasn’t for a select group of people, it was for all of humanity. It was for you, your neighbor and your enemy. It was for anyone who chose to accept it.
The freedom you have has nothing to do with what you have done to earn it, but everything to do with what Jesus has done on your behalf. He purchased eternal freedom for you, and it cost Him His life. To be truly free is to not only know that Jesus set you free, but to also know Jesus. You are free, revived and alive. Your life has meaning and purpose because of Jesus.
