I Can Learn The Bible: The Joshua Code For Kids

DAY 12 OF 14

The only temptations that you have are the temptations that all people have. But you can trust God. He will not let you be tempted more than you can stand. But when you are tempted, God will also give you a way to escape that temptation. Then you will be able to stand it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

Temptations

Julia was over at her friend Audrey’s house. They were playing a game when they smelled something delicious coming from the kitchen—warm brownies Audrey’s mom had just taken out of the oven. Audrey knew her mom had told her that they could not have a brownie until after dinner, but she wanted one so badly! Julia noticed that Audrey’s mom had left the kitchen, so she suggested they each sneak just one brownie . . . after all, Audrey’s mom would never know! Audrey was being tempted in that moment to do something she knew was wrong. What was more important: getting to eat the brownie, or doing the right thing? What would you have done?

A Wrong Desire

Being tempted means really wanting to do something you know is a sin. Maybe it is pushing or hitting someone when you are angry, looking at your friend’s paper during a test, or telling a lie so you do not get into trouble.

A Way Out

In our verse for this week, God not only teaches us that we are all tempted in many different ways but also gives us a promise. He says that when we are tempted to do something wrong, He will provide a way out for us. Sometimes when you are tempted the best way to make the right choice is to remove yourself from the situation. God says He will show us how to make a run for it. It’s a little bit like a quarterback playing football. The defense is closing in on him and he thinks he is going to get sacked . . . until . . . he sees it! There’s a little clear path where he can run through the players and make it to the end zone—a way of escape! That is what God provides for us when we are tempted. We just have to look for it.

What are your biggest temptations? Do you believe God will give you a way of escape? What do you think it will be?

Dear Lord, You know I am sometimes tempted to . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Thank You for Your promise to help me find a way out of that temptation. Please give me the self-control and courage to take it! In Jesus’ name, amen.

When you are tempted this week, recite this week’s verse in your mind. And now say this:

God’s Word is for me and to me, it is in me and working through me, and just like His love, it goes on and on forever!
