Ambassadors for Christ
After Jesus rose from the dead, He gave a final message to His followers. He said, “Go and make disciples of all nations.” He commissioned them to be His ambassadors. As followers of Christ, we share in that commission. This is why you and I are on this planet. We’re here to impact others for eternity!
Jesus showed up in our lives because we needed a savior. We needed forgiveness and reconciliation with God and each other. We have been reconciled with God not because we got our act together or did something to earn it. It’s all because of what Jesus has done for us. We simply believed.
Once we’ve been reconciled to God through faith in Jesus, God shares with us this ministry of reconciliation. In fact, our life’s purpose is wrapped around this mission of reconciling others to God through faith in Jesus. God is making His appeal to others through us, that they too would be reconciled to Him.
Those first followers of Christ who were commissioned to be His ambassadors and share in this ministry of reconciliation were flawed men and women. Yet, knowing all their flaws and failures, Jesus entrusted this ministry to them. In the same way, He has chosen us, as broken and defective as we are, to join Him in reconciling people to God.
This is what it means to be a “fisher of men.” My purpose for being here is that others may come to believe in Jesus and be reconciled to God through Him. Maybe that happens because I show up in their lives at the right time to demonstrate the love of God and invite them to believe. Imagine the impact of you showing up to encourage and to care can have in another person’s life!
You can be a minister of reconciliation wherever you go. This gives your life at work, at school, and at home a whole new level of meaning and purpose. Maybe the reason you work where you do is to show up in someone’s life. Maybe that someone is asking deep in their soul, “Is there a God?” “Does God care about me?” Just maybe, you are the one who will show up for that person in such a way that they come to believe that there is a God who loves them and wants a relationship with them. Love them the way Jesus loves you.
About this Plan
Being a Christian… what does that mean? Jesus came to establish a relationship with us, not a religion or an institution. In this third devotional from the Follow series, we will conclude that Jesus came to earth to make a relationship with our Creator possible. We have the opportunity to know the one true God and to live our lives in light of this connection that we have with Him.
