Jesus, Our Great Example
Jesus’ life is a perfect example for us to follow. He lived a life of servanthood and perfect love. A life of power and wisdom. He was fully dependent on His Father and lived with purpose in every step. In today’s Scriptures, we’ll take a look at what Jesus’ life teaches us.
Jesus often used physical examples to illustrate spiritual realities. In John 4:34, Jesus refers to having “food” that His disciples were unaware of. He compares doing the will of His Father to food. Why would Jesus compare doing his Father’s will with food?
Food is essential for life. Jesus was likely making the comparison that doing God’s will is just as important for our spiritual life as eating is for our physical life (if not more important). If we don’t eat, we become weak. And if we don’t live in obedience to what God calls us to, we become spiritually weak and depleted as well.
So, what will your “food” be?
As you wake up each morning, prepare your heart. Talk to God and commit your day to Him. You can serve your Heavenly Father each day by thoughtfully loving every person who crosses your path. Ask Him to lead you to places and people so that you can share the love of Christ. Trust the Holy Spirit to guide you. As you draw close to the heart of God, just like Jesus, you will find yourself focused on fulfilling the good works He has called you to do.
Consider:
Why do you think the disciples never asked Jesus why He was speaking to a woman?
What message does Jesus send by speaking to a Samaritan woman? What does that mean for you?
Who do you tend to avoid engaging in conversation with? Be honest here. Why?
What is your food—things you feel God is calling you to do? How can you start doing them?
Prayer:
Loving Father, I dedicate my whole life to You! I choose to joyfully serve others every day. Use every resource and talent You’ve given me to do Your will. May I fulfill Your purposes for me and love everyone You put in my path.
*Don’t forget to finish strong with your Jesus Is … list!
