Men And Women Of A Different Spirit: A Seven Day Devotional To Greater Faith

DAY 6 OF 7

We have been created on purpose, for a purpose.

And ultimately, it's up to us to decide if fulfilling that purpose is worth it or not. Will we let fear or the pride of disobedience keep us from the life we were made to live? Or will we become men and women of a different spirit, carried in confidence by God into all that He appointed for us long ago?

I recently was sitting in an online group with Bible teacher Jess Connolly and she asked us what we would in the next 24 hours if we stopped agreeing with fear. What would I do differently if I stopped listening to fear? What would I do differently if I stopped giving space and time in my mind to any thought that set itself up against the knowledge of God?

I want you to take a few seconds to think through those questions, because what I realized was that I had been holding back in certain areas for the most ridiculous reasons. Really take a minute and write these down—I was so surprised at what God brought to light for the first time and chances are you’ll have a similar experience.

I had never considered myself a fearful person, but what I realized what that I hadn’t been giving the last 10% out of self-preservation. YUCK. Here’s what I realized through this conversation that brought so much freedom, and hopefully will do the same for you: So, what if I do mess up? It’s already happened! What if I let people down? It’s already happened and I’M STILL HERE. What if I fail?! Spoiler: that has already happened multiple times—even just today!

Sometimes we don’t realize that we have been carrying a spirit of the world until someone challenges us to think about what we would do if we carried a different spirit. What would you do if you knew that God was for you? What would you do if you knew He would take care of your every need?

You know where I’m going with this. We can no longer miss out on what God has created us to do because we don’t have the faith in ourselves to do it because we only need faith in HIM to accomplish it. In spite of us! We are given the gift of the opportunity to try, the opportunity to fail, the opportunity to learn. In order to walk in the life of purpose and abundance God has for us, we’ve got to become men and women of whole hearts, fully committed, because with God we have nothing to lose. Yet the converse is true—if we hold back, carrying a spirit of fear because of our lack of faith in God--we have everything to lose.

‘Because they have not followed me wholeheartedly, not one of those who were twenty years old or more when they came up out of Egypt will see the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob— not one except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun, for they followed the Lord wholeheartedly.’ (Numbers 32:11-12)

At the end of the day, we need to be at a place where the risk of missing out on what God has for us is far greater than the fear failing trying to get there. Are you there? If not, spend some time praying about this and ask God to help you get there. He is so faithful do it, if we are willing. As men and women of a different spirit, we can walk into the land God has called us too—giants and all—because we are confident of the One who called us there. Here's to seeing what a difference the last ten percent makes!

What happens when we let fear, doubt, or lies hinder us from living the life we were made for? What would you do differently if you had no fear? Everyday we have the choice to have a faith greater than fear. It's time to walk with humble courage into all God has for us by digging into what He says about the life we were made to live.
