Gene Moore - Tunnel Vision: A Devotional Seriesنموونە
Day 5: Always Jesus
“I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.” Psalm 146:2 (NIV)
During an especially difficult season, I told my wife I felt like I was in a dark tunnel, and I didn’t know how to find my way out. My wife encouraged me to bring my feelings to God.
Following her advice, I began to seek the Lord. It was during a time of prayer that He clearly gave me two words: tunnel vision. By definition, tunnel vision means you can’t focus on anything other than the target in front of you. If you look around, it feels like the darkness might just swallow you up. So, the only way to get to the light at the end of the tunnel is to keep moving forward, toward the light. If Christ is my light—my hope—then in times of darkness and confusion, I have no choice but to move toward Him.
I’ve learned that even if I don’t have all the answers or I don’t see a solution in sight, Jesus is all that I need. He is more than enough.
One of my favorite songs on my album, Tunnel Vision, is called “Always Jesus.” The lyrics say, “Where there is Christ, there is hope. Where there is hope, there’s more to be written. My days unfold, touched by Your grace. I need You, God, on every page.”
This is good news! The story’s not over. God can take the most hopeless of situations and turn it into something beautiful. He is the Author and Finisher of our faith; and He promises to write an incredible story for each of His children. Sometimes I forget this, and it causes a lot of unnecessary anxiety in my life.
That’s when I remind myself of His words to me during that dark season: tunnel vision. If I maintain tunnel vision, I’m not looking to my left or to my right comparing my journey with others. I’m not seeing the darkness that threatens to overwhelm me. I’m simply locking eyes with Jesus, putting one foot in front of the other, inching my way toward Him.
Whatever you’re going through, keep your eyes focused on the only One who can bring you peace. His name is Jesus, and He is the light at the end of your tunnel.
