UNCOMMEN Dads Investigate
W.W.J.A.
What would Jesus ask? Jesus asked over 130 questions in the New Testament.
- to the disciples cowering in the boat after he calmed a storm, “Why are you afraid?” (Matt. 8:26)
- to the two blind men, “Do you believe I am able to do this?” (Matt. 8:28).
- to the paralytic, “Do you want to get well?” (John 5:6)
- to the disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” (Matt. 16:15)
Ever feel like you just don’t know what to say to your kids? I think some of the best sentences a dad can say end with a question mark. W.W.D.A - what would dads ask? Dads loom large in the minds of their kids. It’s far better to find out about their world, then try and expect them to understand ours. John said that Jesus became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). He stepped down into our world. Before he ever asked the disciples to drop their nets and follow him, he walked where they walked and lived where they lived (Matt. 4:13). People often left perplexed after they heard Jesus teach, (much like our kids feel after our little sermonettes), but when he asked questions, people were drawn in.
Good questions act like a can opener. They cut through the surface and get to the heart of your kids. Here are three questions every dad should ask his kids on a regular basis:
- What are your favorite things?
- Who are your best friends?
- What are your fears?
