David’s Greatest Asset

DAY 3 OF 5

Patient & Listening

David had a patient heart. David was anointed king as a teenager, but David did not become king over all of Israel until he was thirty. David waited patiently and adventurously for at least fifteen years. God gave David a glimpse of what was to come, but David had to wait on God to work out His plans. A lot of people do the opposite and end up making a mess. Be patient, wait on God and He will bring you into your destiny.

David confronted and killed Goliath and became a national hero. And “the women” began to sing, ‘Saul has killed his thousands, David has killed his ten thousands’. Instead of letting that fuel pride in his heart, David ignored the praises and went back to the wilderness to tend his father’s sheep—the  same place where God had located him in the first place. That is just remarkable! These days, a lot of people are given to singing their own praises. Be careful and guard your heart.

God keeps His promises.  David’s patience was borne out of his trust in God. David recognized that this is the same God that skipped all his brothers and singled him out. David recognized that this is the same God that brought him into a king-making meeting that he was not invited to. David recognized that this is the same God that anointed him as king in the presence of his "enemies". David was making a statement, that this same God is able to take him to the throne. While there is a place for hard work, there is also a place for hard waiting -  waiting on God.

David had a listening heart. I urge you to please read 1 Samuel 25, it is an amazing story. Nabal repaid David's goodness with contempt. David armed himself and was marching his army to Nabal’s house. But on the way, David was intercepted by Nabal’s wife, Abigail. David could have ignored her, after all she was married to the man that had treated him with such  contempt, but David listened to her.

A lot of people set their hearts to do wrong, but God in His mercy sends an ‘Abigail’. Yet they  insist on their own way because of the pride in their hearts. Vengeance is for God. David was preserved because he listened and God fought for David. Stop trying to fight your own battle, the battle is the Lord’s. I pray that God will give you a heart that actually listens.

Thought: What is the Holy Spirit stirring up in your heart? Talk to God about it and commit to a new direction – a God direction.

Prayer: Father, please give me a new heart, and put a new spirit in me. Take out the stony, stubborn heart and give me a tender, responsive heart, in Jesus Name [Ezekiel 36:26]

About this Plan

David’s Greatest Asset

God pays close attention to the heart, yours and mine. In fact, the heart determines most things spiritually. Your heart can qualify or disqualify you before God. This is why God instructs that, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." Your heart is your greatest asset and you have to pay close attention to what flows in and out of it.
