DAY 26 OF 31

Whose problem is it Anyway?

Rebekah Trittipoe

Ready:

“Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. . . You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lordwill give you. . . Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lordwill be with you.’” 2 Chronicles 20: 15, 17

Set:

Back in the late 840s BC, King Jehoshaphatwas informed that three huge armies were on the move with the intention of annihilating Judah. As word spread of the impending attack, residents from every town gathered together to figure out what they should do. It sure did not look promising, and they were terrified!

The King was wise enough to ask God what to do. To paraphrase the amazing answer: “Don’t sweat it. You don’t have to fight. God’s got this! He will fight for you!” And sure enough, that’s exactly what happened. The battle was won. God did not “need” Judah’s help.

I recently heard someone say: “If it’s something you can’t fix, it’s not your problem.” I think there is truth in that. How many times do we worry about things over which we have no control? The weather, for instance. Or maybe we obsess about an opponent’s statistics or record. But does it really matter? Nope. Their record is not our “problem.” We can’t “fix” it. We can only control how obedient we are to prepare and perform as best we can and with excellence.

. We underestimate the power of God and as a result, take on responsibilities and burdens God never intended for us to have.

Go:

1. Why is it so hard to not worry?

2. Why do we try so hard to be the “fixer”?

3. How can we balance our responsibility with God’s promise to take care of things?

Workout:

1 Peter 5:7

Matthew 6: 25-34

Overtime:

“Father, help us be faithful and obedient in all things. But let us trust you when you say you will fight our battles”.
