What Is the Future of the Church?
Okay, I promised we’d take a look into the future. So, let’s do that. How, you ask? Um, I didn’t quite think this through, I guess. I don’t actually have future-vision goggles for you or anything.
Well, just stick with me.
All right, try this. Put down this Bible Plan for a minute and go look at your face in the mirror. Seriously look at it for about 30 seconds, and then come back. I’ll wait.
Oh good, you’re back!
Guess what you just saw? You saw the future. I’m not joking! You are the future of the Church. And don’t forget it!
All right, you saw the present too. I mean, you are the Church today. That is for sure true.
But you’re also the future. Remember what we’ve learned? The Church isn’t a building. It’s made up of everyone who trusts and follows Jesus.
So, here’s the challenge to you: Carry on God’s mission; be the Church.
Church matters, so we share it. And, we share it with our whole lives! What do people see when they look at your life? How do you share your faith in Jesus outside of the walls of your local church? How will you make sure the Church carries on into the future through the life you live?
Our reading from James today shows us just how important it is to make sure that what we believe lines up with what we say and do. James 1:26 NLT puts it like this, “If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.”
Worthless? Ouch. That’s not going to last until the future. Let’s live our whole lives filled with the love of Jesus, caring for those who are in need around us, so that God’s family will continue to grow and grow from now until the end of time!
Don’t forget what you saw in the mirror. You saw the Church of today and the Church of tomorrow. You are the Body of Christ. What you do today builds and strengthens the Church as you strengthen yourself and your community.
Now, before we end our time together, let’s watch this awesome video of kids like you who are the future of the Church—because they’re the Church today!
It’s been great spending these five days together. I got a good view of the Church—both of today and tomorrow. That was awesome! Now, go out and be the Church!
Oh hey—did you like the videos from this Bible Plan?
