FCA: The Undefeated Devotional For Competitors

DAY 28 OF 31

The Big Game
Kristy Makris

READY:
“For He has satisfied the thirsty and filled the hungry with good things.” – Psalm 107:9

SET:
When I was young, I was given a ticket to the Big Game. I quietly stuck it in my pocket, keeping it close but never using it. Several years passed, and I was reminded of that ticket by a friend. We went to the game, but I became enamored with the tailgating. I spent much time with those outside the stadium where the roars of the crowd could be heard but not a play could be seen. Finally, I became restless and ventured inside the stadium. I took out my tattered ticket and handed it over.

Once I was inside, I saw distracted friends sitting in the upper deck, but my seat was down by the field. As I took my place, I noticed everyone looking at a book. I was told it was the “playbook” and that by reading it I could know all that was happening on the field. I purchased one for myself and studied it, taking copious notes and watching the game unfold.

Suddenly, a hand was extended to me from the field, and I was invited to be a participant in the Big Game rather than a spectator. I was told I had to trust the Coach, study the playbook and take my place on the team. I accepted the offer, joined my Coach and team on the field and knew my life would never be the same again.

GO:
1. In the story, what Christian element does the ticket represent? What about the tailgate, field, playbook, Coach and Big Game?
2. What does this story teach us about how God can satisfy our longing souls?
3. What spiritual practices do you need to work on to move closer to becoming a player for God in the Big Game? Set goals for the next three months, and track your progress.

WORKOUT:
Exodus 9:16
Isaiah 55:10-11
Philippians 2:13

OVERTIME:
Father, satisfy my longing soul with Your good things. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

About this Plan

FCA: The Undefeated Devotional For Competitors

Win or lose, God is always Undefeated. The FCA Undefeated Devotional deals with issues that coaches and athletes face on and off the arena of competition. This 31-day plan will also help establish a consistent, daily quiet time with God, and includes extra readings and suggested prayer for competitors regardless of sport. We would like to thank the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for providing this plan.
