FCA: The Undefeated Devotional For Competitors

DAY 14 OF 31

Will to Win
Steve Beckerle

READY:
“Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.” – Romans 12:2

SET:
It’s been labeled as one of the best seconds in college football history. In one of the biggest rivalries in football history, Auburn and Alabama were tied 28 to 28 with one second left in regulation time of the 2014 Iron Bowl. Alabama had the ball on the Auburn 38 yard line, when Alabama’s coach, Saban, decided that instead of trying a Hail Mary pass, or kneeling the ball to go into overtime, he would go for a field goal.

When the kick came up short, Chris Davis was standing in the in-zone waiting to catch the ball. In a little known rule, the defensive team is eligible to return a missed field goal. Davis caught the ball and accelerated up the sideline. At midfield, it became apparent that no one would touch him. “When I looked back, I couldn’t believe this,” Davis said. “When I was running, I said, ‘God is good.’”

Davis scored a touchdown and won the game for Auburn. Davis was in the right place, at the right moment, in the right game to make a huge play!

When we live according to God’s plans, and not our own, we become big playmakers in life! God’s desire for us is to live great lives, and do great things, and glorify Him in the process.

GO:
1. What does God’s will look like in your life?
2. How does God’s will carry over to sports?
3. In what ways are you going against God’s will?

WORKOUT:
1 Thessalonians 5:16-19
John 7:17

OVERTIME:
Father, help me to see Your will, so I can impact the world for You, amen.

About this Plan

FCA: The Undefeated Devotional For Competitors

Win or lose, God is always Undefeated. The FCA Undefeated Devotional deals with issues that coaches and athletes face on and off the arena of competition. This 31-day plan will also help establish a consistent, daily quiet time with God, and includes extra readings and suggested prayer for competitors regardless of sport. We would like to thank the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for providing this plan.
