Becoming Fosters: Brokenness And Belonging

DAY 4 OF 5

Hope

Every time we get a call for a new placement, the reality is, we are being asked to head to the frontlines of a bloody and devastating spiritual battle—a battle Satan believes he has won by breaking up a family. Foster care is bringing dire situations into your world in a very real and tangible way.

Foster care is a life that has to be okay with living in limbo and with tentative plans. Everything can change with minimal or sometimes no notice. It is uncomfortable, messy, and often overwhelming. Multiple monthly home visits, medical appointments, family visits, court, therapy, and the emotional toll…oh, the emotional toll of it all.

A foster family comes alongside children and families who are carrying burdens they cannot bear alone. Fostering is an opportunity to offer a safe, loving, and restful home to a child who may have lived their life in worry and fear. It is an opportunity to show love and give lots of smiles along the way.

Our support can seem meaningless at times, but there is much to celebrate in foster care. You see it in the large and small victories. You experience a victory when you receive an unprompted first hug from the child who moved into your home one and a half years ago. There is victory when an infant begins to close the late development gap. You celebrate when a child begins to excel in school because the adult-size worries he was carrying have been relieved.

Satan thought he won but the victory is always in Jesus! No matter the outcome of the case or the decisions made for the child, our hope is in the fact that Jesus loves each one of these littles who walk through our door more than we ever could. His love for them reaches beyond anything we can even begin to understand or comprehend.

The current struggle is worth the continued fight to see Jesus reveal His glory in each situation!

Our promise is this: His is the victory.
