Trust God with Your Story
Have you ever done something that you were confident God was asking you to do, yet the result was not what you were expecting? It is a little disorienting, right? It is easy to assume that if we do what God says, everything will end up looking like we expected it to—you get the coveted position in your school organization, your boyfriend/girlfriend stays with you for forever, you get the job that you always wanted, you receive the A on that exam that you studied so hard for, etc. However, God does not function as our genie in a bottle. His ways are so much higher. He is doing something far greater than we could ever hope for or imagine.
Do not be surprised if you cannot see immediate results or drastic change right away in another person’s life after you share your story. It might be just the beginning of their path to exploring more of who God is. If you were obedient to share, celebrate that and trust God with the outcome. All you are called to do is to share your story in the power of the Holy Spirit, and leave the results to God. No matter how someone responds, continue to pray for them. You never know how the Lord will move in someone’s life down the road. It will most likely be way better than what you could have ever imagined.
Sharing your story is not a task to be accomplished; it is about the person you are talking to—someone God loves deeply and wants to be in a relationship with. Enjoy the journey, and thank God that He has invited you to take part in it.
Questions to Ask Yourself:
- When was the last time you felt disappointed by the outcome of a situation even though you felt like you were obedient to God?
What’s Next:
- Thank God for the story that He has given you. Pray that you would be patient, kind, vulnerable, and bold when sharing your story and the Gospel with others.
- Pray for the person’s heart you plan on sharing your story with in the next couple days.
