Jesus Revealed Pt. 14 - It Is ALL In Jesus!نموونە
Jesus goes to the Father - Rejoice
Thoughts on the Passage
There are three things in this short passage that are important.
First, why does Jesus say that the Father is greater than I when Jesus is part of the Godhead? Greater has several meanings.
· It can mean “more powerful” – that is not the case here because they are both God.
· It can mean greater in nature. Jesus is both God and man – so there are restrictions that He has right now because of His humanity. The Father does not have these restrictions.
· It can mean greater in role. This is like a husband a wife. They are equal and yet God has assigned the headship to the husband. That role is not one to be used for dominating, but instead one to be used to serve, bless and release the best from those underneath.
This is likely the meaning that Jesus intended.
Second, Jesus is letting them know ahead of time what is about to happen – so that they can believe. Jesus took time to share details about what is about to happen – His death, His return to the Father, the release of the Holy Spirit to lead them. These would all happen and they would help them keep their trust and faith in Jesus. It gave them a lot of confidence that Jesus would keep His promises to them.
Third, satan’s power in this world has its limits. Satan has authority in this world because mankind does evil – and this puts us under his authority. Jesus never sinned. Therefore, He lived in a world where satan had control but He Himself was never under the authority of satan. That is important for us today. Paul talks about this in Romans 6, where we recognize that we have been set free from satan’s control and we now commit to obedience to God’s Word. We walk in the same freedom that Jesus had in this world.
Application
What has Jesus revealed to us – either in the Word of God, or maybe through personal direction where we know what God has for us? Hold these promises tightly. Let God use them to guide us and build our faith. He will keep His promises.
Take time today to seek forgiveness if we have done anything that opens the door for satan to have a foothold in our lives. Choose to walk in obedience to God’s commands – and be free from satan in this world. Hallelujah!
Time to Pray
Father, today as we read this short passage, there are lots of powerful things. I see Jesus in His humanity still walking in total freedom in a world that is bound by sin and darkness. That is the way I want to live my life today. I know that there is freedom when I walk in righteousness. So today, give me a heart to be diligent to walk in that freedom. Give me a heart to love every command from You. They are commands that release blessing, hope and freedom. I know that obedience to Your Word comes with promises that increase my love for You and my faith in You – they are wonderful promises. Promises of joy, peace, hope freedom, blessing and fruitfulness. Release them today. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
