Loneliness

DAY 3 OF 7

Day 3

Jesus welcomed people into his own family. He invited his disciples to call God Father. Even the best human father’s love is just a shadow of our heavenly Father’s wise and tender care for his children.

Pray

Heavenly Father, thank you that you have adopted me as your child—and that you did it out of love.

Read

The benefits of trusting in Jesus Christ start today—we are children of God now—but these benefits carry into an eternal future.

1 John 3:1-2

Reflect

Think about the ideal human father. What does a good father do for his children? How does he show them love? Now consider that God wants to have that kind of relationship with you. How does this idea make you feel? How could such a relationship change how you feel about your present circumstances?

Respond

Does it seem too good to believe that you are God’s loved child? Perhaps in moments of brutal honesty with yourself, you feel un-loveable. It takes faith to believe the too-good-to-be-true news of today’s Scripture passage. Memorizing or meditating on today’s passage can go a long way in helping you believe this good news. Try it, then prayerfully ask God to give you faith to believe it.

About this Plan

Loneliness

Do you have the feeling that no one really gets you—even your friends? Do you long for close relationships, but haven’t been able to find them? Not only does God promise to be close to us, he also provides companionship—and through his church, he even gives us a family.
