Daily Bible Reading — Sustained By God’s Word Of Hope

DAY 1 OF 30

April 1

Introduction

Today we will read the first part of the account of the death and raising of Lazarus. Jesus receives word that his friend is ill, but he delays making the trip to Bethany. Martha meets Jesus when he arrives and states her belief that Jesus is the Messiah. The conclusion of the story will provide an occasion for Jesus to reveal the glory of God. Today’s reading includes another of Jesus’s “I am” statements.

Today’s Scripture: John 11:25, 26a (GNT)

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me will live, even though they die; and those who live and believe in me will never die.”

Today’s Reading

John 11:1-27

Reflect

How does Jesus respond to the message he received from Mary and Martha (verse 4)? What does Jesus say to his disciples (verses 11, 14, 15)? What are your thoughts about Jesus waiting two days before going to Bethany? What do his words in verses 4 and 15 indicate?

Pray

Holy Jesus, I believe that you are the Resurrection and the Life. I place my faith in you, knowing that you offer me life everlasting. Amen.

Prayer Concern

Those who are terminally ill

Tomorrow’s Reading
