If you’re anything like me, then detours can be frustrating! You’re planning to go somewhere, and then without warning, something throws you off-track. But there is a reason for the detours, because when you’re on the highway and you face a detour, that means that something is being constructed or corrected. When this happens spiritually, it means God is in a building program. He is trying to build Christlikeness into your life and to do that, to move you from where you are to where He wants you to be, He rarely goes in a straight line. Too much development is needed or correction is needed.
Rather than fighting the detours, knowing that God’s the architect of the detour in the first place, just go with the flow. Detours know where they’re supposed to end and how to get you back to the main highway. That’s where you want to go anyway, so let it happen.
Your detour may be longer or shorter than mine, but since it’s His detour, part of His perfect plan, according to His perfect will, bringing us to His preferred destination for our lives, you have no reason to despair. So, smile in the midst of the frustration of a detour, knowing God knows when it’s going to end, where it’s going to end, how it’s going to end, and when it ends, you’ll be in exactly the place He wants you to be.
