Read To Me Daily Semester 2

DAY 81 OF 86

2SAMUEL 9-10:
In our story yesterday, David realized the incongruity that he was living in a beautiful cedar palace while God's dwelling place was in a tent. Then God gave Nathan the prophet a long message for David. He told him that his dynasty would last forever and that his son would build God’s temple. David’s beautiful prayer of response is recorded for us. Then God gave a string of stunning military victories to David.

PSALM 110:
Today’s poem is one of the prime Messianic psalms. Its first verse is one of the most-repeated verses of the New Testament. It certainly was very important for the early Christians. And the 4th verse becomes an important theme of the book of Hebrews.

Re-reading ROMANS 13:
We are now solidly in the middle of the practical part of this letter. Today as we re-read chapter 13, let’s take the time to ponder how we’re doing in obeying government authorities and in our obligation to love everyone. I especially like the section at the end contrasting light and dark, and taking up our spiritual weapons.

Let’s pray.
Lord Jesus, You have bought us, and we are yours! And our heavenly Father has set up all levels of governmental authority over us. Lord, I have heard people who consider themselves your followers saying they ‘hate’ certain ones who currently hold office in my country. This should not happen! We are to show them honor as described here, and to live in a God-honoring way before them, and according to 1st Timothy to pray for them. Lord, You have shown us such love. Now in response, help us to be loving— to our fellow believers and to all people. Today, wake us up, Lord. Help us to be aware of the spiritual battle we are entering, and help us to take up the spiritual armor and weapons that You give us. And a lot of that spiritual battle takes place within us. May we be successful today in defeating the desires that spring up from our sinful nature. We pray that today, we will live for your glory, Lord Jesus.
