Read To Me Daily Semester 2نموونە
1SAMUEL 3-4:
In yesterday’s reading in 1st Samuel, we heard Hannah's poetic and prophetic prayer of praise. Then we heard of the contrast between the boy Samuel, who served the Lord faithfully, while Eli's sons were scoundrels. Finally, a “man of God” (a prophet or perhaps even an angel) gave a long prophetic warning to Eli. In today’s reading we will see that prophecy come true.
PSALM 92:
Today’s poetry reading is Psalm 92, which is another favorite psalm of praise!
ROMANS 2:
As we heard yesterday, the book of Romans starts out with a very strong statement about bad news which makes the Good News ‘good’. This reminds me of the movie Second Hand Lions. In that movie, a major character has a lecture on ‘how to be a man’ that he frequently has given in his career. It starts out, “Understand this: All people are basically good.” However, in the movie, all we see in that character's past life and in the current way he lives is that mankind can't be trusted and you gotta’ build high fences around your property, and have your gun and fists ready. According to Scripture and what we will read in Romans, mankind hasn't been ‘basically good’ since the Garden of Eden.
Let’s pray.
Our heavenly Father, thank You for being our place of safety and our defender, because we have come to know You. You have revealed so much about your character to mankind. We praise You for how your eternal power and divine nature are revealed in this world that You created. Those qualities are invisible, Paul says, but they are nevertheless revealed for those who can perceive them. Open our spiritual eyes to see them! In addition, the Gospel is so clearly and specifically revealed to us here. But in spite of the amazing things You have revealed, mankind refuses to entertain the ‘God hypothesis’. And what Paul said is right: “Their thoughts have become complete nonsense, and their empty minds are filled with darkness. They say they are wise, but they are fools.” Lord, we know people like that. When they face the final judgment, they will be without excuse. We will name them in prayer to You now. We ask You to open their minds to the truth.
