NOAH: A 5-Day Devotional

DAY 4 OF 5

We are reminded once again that Noah did all that the Lord commanded. Acting upon every word God spoke, he was never swayed by other voices. Through the many years of taking on such a massive task, he stayed focused on the details—the exact materials to build the ark to the proper size, the number of stalls for the animals, and the many types of food they would need for the animals. This would have been an overwhelming responsibility to sustain so much life over what was to Noah an unspecified time only God knew.

In Noah’s story, we have no evidence that he started a preaching ministry based on God’s message to him. Rather, he stayed true to the calling on his life to build the ark. For many folks throughout the generations, being given an exclusive revelation brings the temptation to build a personal platform and eventually veer away from the original calling, particularly over many years. Doing good in our name can quickly become the enemy of bringing glory to God’s name.

But because of God’s favor and Noah’s obvious character, we can rest assured he took every opportunity to warn others and offer repentance when given the opportunity. We can know he stayed true to God’s original assignment because the ark and the animals were ready when the rain began. Noah had to wait on God, but Noah was ready when the wait was over.

Watch today’s clip as God begins to bring the rain and Noah’s family starts their journey.

There is an old proverb that says, “God never moves hastily, but when He moves, He moves swiftly.” We know that the building of the ark took many, many years, so in that time God was surely giving men and women more time and opportunity to turn back to Him.

But as we also know well from the truth of Scripture, He is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. Verse 16 is quite clear that God was the one to seal Noah and his family into the ark. He closed the door so Noah wouldn’t have to bear such a burden proving that no one can open or close the doors of salvation but God. Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 6 that now is the time of God’s favor and today is the day of salvation.

Who might you share the Gospel with while the door of opportunity is open today?
