839 BC King Jehoash of the Northern Kingdom visits the dying Elisha who declares he will defeat Aram three times. Amaziah of the Southern Kingdom routs an Edomite army and in pride challenges the Northern Kingdom but is defeated. He forfeits a large ransom. In 825 BC evil Jeroboam II inherits the throne of the Northern Kingdom and retakes territory from Aram/Syria. In 810 BC Amaziah of the Southern Kingdom is assassinated and his son Uzziah (also known as Azariah, 2 Kings 15:1–2) is crowned. The Southern Kingdom now prospers, becomes very strong and subdues the Philistines and the Arabians.
