John gives us a bit of different story of origins. Rather than giving the human birth story, he tells us about Jesus's Divinity. This is a major theme for John--explaining that Jesus is not just some brilliant human, but God Incarnate. John explains that Jesus has always been God. He was there at the beginning. And He became flesh, but that wasn't His beginning, it was just His Incarnation.
