Tongue Of The Wise

DAY 4 OF 7

Think + Speak

Words once released are difficult to retrieve. So, think before you speak.

Proverbs 15:28 ‘The heart of the righteous studies how to answer, But the mouth of the wicked pours forth evil.’ Proverbs 16:23 ‘The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, and adds learning to his lips.’

Words once spoken cannot be recovered or repossessed. Therefore, Proverbs teaches us to think before we speak. The heart of the righteous man studies how to answer, which means he first thinks about the outcome and effect of his words before speaking at the optimal time. We also perceive in Proverbs that the heart of the wise teaches his lips, which means that there is an inner processing in the mind that takes place prior to the lips speaking, releasing wisdom. Therefore, the rule is uncomplicated: ‘let us think before we speak’.

Let’s pray.

Father, we ask You for wisdom to know how to study, to think through before we can answer; how to ponder, how to let wisdom move in our hearts and add learning to our lips and let wisdom teach our lips what to say. Give us this grace and help us to be people like this so that we will think, we will process with wisdom, and then we will speak right words at the right time. Give us this grace we pray. In Jesus' name, Amen.
