Still angry after all these years
One of my kids, roughly age 6, was glowering in his bunk bed. “Do you like being angry?” I asked. “Yes,” he said.
Do you like being angry? Or do you hate it but can’t get the anger out of your heart? Time does not heal wounds. The infection only grows as the weeks slide by. What to do? Well, the first step is realizing the danger. Unresolved anger keeps you in an emotional prison. It eats out your soul like sulfuric acid. You will damage yourself and others.
God once saw the sickness in a man’s heart and tried to intervene: “The LORD said to Cain, ‘Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it’” (Genesis 4:6,7).
Bathing your soul in the gospel message will help relieve your own guilt, and it will inspire you to be merciful to the person you believe caused your pain. Pray for peace, peace in your heart. Give your anger to God and let him take care of the other guy.
