The Right Visionنموونە
Simeon Praised
Simeon believed God’s promise of a Messiah, and he waited in preparation for the Messiah. He did one more thing in preparation for Jesus’ arrival: he praised God just like Mary did. In the last of the five songs of praise contained in the birth story, Simeon starts his song of praise with the words, “Now, Lord…” In Latin this is a song entitled the “Nunc Dimittis” and it is a chorus that has been sung down through the ages to extol the faithfulness of God.
Simeon takes Jesus in his arms and begins to sing this song of praise. Simeon commences by blessing God for keeping His promise of allowing him to see Jesus before he dies. He sings of Jesus, describing Him as God’s Salvation, a light to the Gentiles, and the glory of God’s people of Israel. Put yourself in Simeon’s shoes and imagine the joy, the fulfillment, the glory of the moment. The Messiah, the Promised One, the Comforter of Israel, and the Savior you have been waiting for, is now in your arms. God has kept His promise to you and to the world. 400 years of silence is now shattered as God has entered into His creation and made Himself known… to you! Simeon reminds us that God has done just that for each of us. Have you recognized Him?
How did Simeon prepare for the arrival of Jesus? He believed God would be true to His promise of bringing the Messiah. He waited patiently, steadfastly, persistently, and faithfully for God to deliver on His promise. And when God delivered, Simeon praised Him like Zachariah, Mary, Elizabeth, and the angels before him.
Simeon had the right vision and God used him to validate the fulfillment of the vision of the Messiah. He was ready for it and he responded with faith, steadfastness, and joy. How will you respond to the promise of God in Jesus Christ this Christmas?

About this Plan
How will you prepare to celebrate the birth of the Savior this year? Many people have traditions such as listening to Christmas music, sending cards, decorating a tree, or reading the Christmas story. During this Advent devotion, we'll be looking at 5 different responses from people who were present for the coming of Jesus and we'll look at how they prepared for His arrival. We'll now look at Simeon’s response.
