Six Truths Of Motherhood

DAY 4 OF 6

 Discipline

Hebrews 12:11-12

No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. However, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

Everyone wants to talk about discipline and what works (or doesn’t work) for them. Discipline is difficult, to put it mildly. If you could take the need to discipline out of being a parent, then our job would be so much easier. Discipline is a hot topic, but it is also fully loaded. There are a few things to keep in mind about discipline:

- No one is perfect

- Every child is different

- Just because you have listened to a podcast, read a book, or talked to your mentor doesn’t mean it will work with your child. It is trial and error.

Why is discipline important? It is important because God thinks it is important and has entrusted you to parent the child you have. Ask God to give you His full wisdom and knowledge as you discipline your child. (Colossians 1:9) We need to get into the habit of going to God in prayer over the discipline of our children. We need to be seeking the advice of the One who created these children. Fear, anxiety and other emotions bubble up in us as moms as we talk about discipline and administer it. The best thing we can do today is to invite God into this part of parenting and to invite Him every day.

My prayer for every mom is:

God, remind these ladies, YOU chose these children for these specific moms. Whether adopted, fostering or through natural birth, YOU chose them. Father, give us the wisdom to know what to do with these children. God, would you comfort these moms right now and show them they have not messed up? I pray Your mercy and grace over all of us today, that in YOU all things are made new, and Your mercies are new every morning.

Today as you discipline your child, ask God to give you wisdom. Remember that discipline produces excellence and peace. What mom would not want that for their child?
