Power Prayers For Our Daughtersنموونە
Day 4 — Developing Christlike Relationships
Devotion
“No one likes me,” she said. Weary and worn from another day of feeling left out and unseen, my daughter climbed into the car after school.
I understood exactly how she felt. I’ve been there myself and I’m guessing you have as well. I think about Jesus reducing all the Old Testament commands into four words — love God, love others. Simple words, hard reality.
We want our girls to know the beauty of God-honoring relationships. We pray for their future husbands. We earnestly plead for the Lord to place people in their paths who will point them to Him and encourage their spiritual growth.
As I’ve prayed for my daughter and how she connects with others, the best guide I have found is the example of Christ. I’ve pored over the gospels, looking for every hint about the way He interacted with people in all types of situations. The more I studied, the more I recognized there are a few key traits we see in all Jesus’ connections with other people.
From the woman at the well in Samaria to the money changers in the temple, from the disciples to the Pharisees, even when He was tired, Jesus consistently allowed His interactions with people to be guided by humility, wisdom, generosity, and love.
Imagine if our girls’ relationships (and our own as well!) were marked by these qualities. Today, as you pray for your daughter, I hope you will also pray for these things for yourself.
Prayer
Lord, relationships can be hard. We know this because, as moms, we still struggle sometimes to navigate them with grace and wisdom. But we also know that when we look at Your example, we know how we must teach our children to function in their relationships with family and friends.
Father, we pray for our daughters to choose humility in a world that prizes competition, comparison, and conniving (Philippians 2:3). May they learn to guard their words, choosing to speak with kindness and compassion (Proverbs 13:3). May our daughters be examples of generous encouragement and investment in others (2 Corinthians 9:7). And, above all, may Your love flow through them into all their relationships (Colossians 3:14).
We know there will be days when our children feel left out and alone, but we pray that even in those moments, they will remember You are the God who draws near (James 4:8) and sees them always. In Jesus’ name, amen.
