The Big Give

DAY 1 OF 3

If you have a need make sure you plant a seed, because whatever you give to God comes back to you in abundance.

The laws in God’s Word are like the laws He has established in nature. The law of gravity says that what goes up must come down. Now you don’t have to like the law of gravity, but it rules anyway. Just jump off the top of a building and you will discover that fact.

God’s laws differ from His miracles in that a miracle occurs when God overrides His laws, such as when Jesus took five loaves and two small fish and created enough food to feed 15,000-20,000 people. You need to understand that miracles are the exception, not the rule. This was true even in biblical times; God broke through and did some miraculous things, but those miracles were not His normal way of operating.

The norm is that God operates by His rules and His laws that He has built into creation. When it comes to God’s laws for giving and getting, a lot of folks are praying for God’s miracles to provide for their needs while skipping God’s laws. But Jesus said: “Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return” (Luke 6:38).

Jesus was dealing with what we could call the “law of giving and getting” which teaches that the “it” you need is the “it” that you give because when you obey the law of giving, God returns it to you in abundant measure. That’s the normative way God works.

What could you give in order that you might receive it tenfold?
