Turn It Aroundنموونە
Rushing Everywhere, Going Nowhere
The world has become overrun by frenetic activity; rushing everywhere, going nowhere. Cars and trains are built to go faster—and driverless cars will soon be able to do just that for you. Then you get onto your high-speed broadband and rush some more; surf, tweet, tune in to the next tirade of tactless politics, get your comment on someone else’s point of view, curse the referee who has awarded the try to the other team and whew! . . . all of this before you have even begun your honest day’s work!
Most people reach for their device in the morning to check on their status before they even check in with their life partner. Their day may rise or fall according to the number of likes and the opinions found in the rest of the world’s daily news before they are barely awake. Good morning, world!
Rushing is so now, so today, so addictive. If we don’t move fast, someone may slip in ahead of us. If we’re not on the cutting edge, we may fall off the edge, we believe. Wait a moment: What happened to “Be still and know that I am God”? What happened to our conversations with God to get His thoughts on a matter? It seems that we trust CNN or some other media channel’s reporting more than we trust God’s unchanging Word. The tone of our day is set by what we hear and see, not by what we believe.
Beauty and peace is found in not rushing and being still, even just for a while. When last did you stop to listen to the rhythm of your own heart beating? God’s creation has this ability to cause you to be still. Aim to get out into the fresh air where you can breathe, away from noise. The quieter we become, the more audible His voice will be.
