Day 8 PSALMS
Reminder: We used one of Paul’s prayers as our springboard yesterday to #PrayRead the Scriptures. Let’s continue to work the same muscle today, this time praying from the book of Psalms.
Millions of believers have a practice of praying daily from the book of Psalms—because it’s so meaningful, powerfully sustaining, and incredibly helpful.
The book of Psalms is the Bible’s songbook and prayerbook. It provides an inexhaustible treasure trove for believers who delight to sing and pray from Scripture.
Personally, Psalms is the first Bible book I open daily. Some psalms are finished in a day; others take several days to traverse. The end result is that I typically complete all 150 psalms around once a year.
For today, let’s #PrayRead the first few verses of Psalm 1 together:
READ.
"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful." (Psalm 1:1)
PRAY.
- Express to God your commitment to renounce the values and advice of ungodly people.
- Ask Him to save you from scoffing at things that are holy or precious.
- Ask for help to refuse a cynical spirit.
READ.
"But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night." (Psalm 1:2)
PRAY.
- Tell the Lord how much you delight in His commands.
- Ask the Lord for grace to meditate in His word day and night.
- Entreat Him to increase your appetite for His word.
READ.
"He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper." (Psalm 1:3)
PRAY.
- Ask Him to make you a fruitful believer.
- Ask for a connection to His Spirit that always keeps you renewed and vibrant, even when weathering dry times.
- As you devote yourself to righteousness, ask Him to prosper you in every way—spiritually, financially, mentally, emotionally, physically, and relationally.
We stopped with Psalm 1 verse 3. If you have time, continue to #PrayRead through all the verses of Psalm 1 in this same manner.
