God Never Changesنموونە
When Everything is Shaken
If there’s anything constant in life, it’s change. Everything changes! Governments change, buildings change, people change, you change, I change. Countries, prices, social norms, icebergs, music, and even mountains all change!
Think about the Constitution of the United States. The Constitution, written in 1787, is our foundation, the highest law in the land. All other laws must be compatible with it. It guides the workings of the whole federal government.
But even something as solid and lasting as the Constitution has changed since its creation. It has undergone 27 amendments (changes), the most recent of which, the Twenty-Seventh Amendment, was adopted in 1992. Even the bedrock of our nation has changed.
Change can be downright scary at times. I know something about change. When I was 37 years old, my first husband – a pastor and the father of our two sons – died suddenly in his bed on New Year’s Day. He hadn’t been sick, he just went to bed and went to heaven.
As you can imagine, my whole life changed overnight. Everything was shaken! I had to become the pastor of our church and raise our sons through their teenage years. (I tell more about that story and what I learned in my book Why God Why: What To Do When Life Doesn’t Make Sense.)
Maybe lots of circumstances have changed in your life and you’re feeling shaken, too. But here’s what I learned in the face of the most drastic change of my life: our covenant with God, bought by the blood of Christ, will never change. His love and care for us is constant. When nothing else stays the same, He does! Malachi 3:6 says, “I am the Lord, I change not.” Hebrews 13:8 says Jesus is the same “yesterday, today, and forever.”
When everything else shifts and changes, you and I are still standing on a solid, unchanging foundation. Hebrews 7:24 says, But He [Jesus], because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”
Look at all of the words that provide hope in that verse: forever, unchangeable, uttermost, always. There is no room for doubt. In a world that is constantly changing, the One who saved us never changes.

But in the midst of life’s chaos, there is one thing that never changes, and that is God’s love for you and His covenant with you. These seven devotionals can help establish you on the Rock and give you a firm foundation of peace in Christ.
