Jesus’ Parable on How To Receive Joy
An advertisement went like this: Tom Hanks lost 12 kg to look like an AIDS patient in the movie Philadelphia. Deserves to be seen on an Akai. We are talking about ‘giving up’ here!
Jesus narrated a parable in which He talked about receiving unspeakable joy. Here it is:
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field" (Matt. 13:44). Those were Jesus' words. Golden words. The World teaches us that we get joy by getting. But this verse is talking about getting joy by giving up. The key phrase in this verse is 'in his joy'. Giving up ALL worldly pleasures (the man, this verse talks about, sold 'all' that he had) for Jesus and His kingdom gives us immeasurable pleasure that is far greater and a boundless joy that is far superior and longer-lasting! In fact, eternity-lasting (Ps. 16:11). So, let's do it! Jesus not only talked about this joy. He walked His talk. Hebrews 12:2 talks about this. Here it is: "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Yes, Jesus endured the cross for the joy set before Him. He underwent excruciating pain en route Golgotha and even while he hung on the cross. All for the joy set before Him! Let us follow the Jesus method of experiencing joy—true joy!
