God is Near the Broken-Hearted
“I am close to the brokenhearted; I rescue those whose spirits are crushed” Psalm 34: 18
The most comforting thing is knowing that the God we serve is near the broken-hearted. Most of us either have been or know someone who has been through a tough time recently. It is okay to admit our state of brokeness. Why? Because that is where God meets us, that is where we experience true comfort from the Holy Spirit. After all, that is one of the roles of the Holy Spirit!
There are several promises in the Bible regarding comforting the brokenhearted. God will not promise us what He cannot provide, or what we do not need. There is wisdom in drawing strength and comfort from the right source. When we go through this process of exchanging our weakness and distress for God’s strength and courage, we position ourselves to start or continue a deeper journey of faith. If we do this in our own strength, we are bound to burn out fast. It is only in God that we receive the comfort that satisfies the soul and does not run dry; because it is available to us whenever we need it.
In such a times of brokenness we can also glorify God and share our testimony of God's comfort and love. In the world, people look to relationships, social status, and other material things to find comfort. The comfort and love they yearn for, no one but God can give in a perfect and whole way. What joy it is to have a personal relationship with the One who gives true and unending comfort and joy to those who need it!
PRAYER/CONFESSION: God I thank you because your Word says you care for me. So I cast all my cares on you! I thank you that you hear me always and you will deliver me. I receive a new heart and a new perspective; help me to see my situation the way you see it. I know that you have great things in store for me and I choose to be comforted and uplifted by your Word.
