A Moment With Godنموونە
GOD OF OUR EXPERIENCE
You are my strength, I sing praise to you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely.
Many names are given to God in the Old Testament. Adonai - Lord. Elohim - God. El Shaddai – God, most High.
When people experienced God in their situation, their experience of God became an altar that they built for worship. They then called that place of experience as Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Shalom and so on.
The God of history becomes their personal God.
The Psalmist is being chased by Saul and David and is tired of running from place to place. Fear grips him and he cries to the Lord. Sometimes when we are constantly fighting a battle, we give up. We are weary and weak. The Psalmist experienced the same thing. A struggle on the inside, he became so weary and tired and fearful. He began to look up and cry to the Lord. Deliver me from my enemies. Protect me. O my strength, I will sing praises to thee, for thou O God art my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love.
v17 is repeated in v9 and v16. My strength. My fortress. My song.
Repeatedly, he expresses that God is his strength and uses the word "MY"
The God of history becomes the God of his experience.
- David acknowledges that the only way to victory is to rely on God. Nothing else. Let us make this God as our personal God. It is important to have an intimate relationship with the Lord that we can lean on Him, rely on Him, run to Him and draw comfort from Him.
- David confesses this victorious God. He had three options: he could have ignored it, he could have kept it to himself, or he could have shared it with others. "I will sing your praises" "I will let everybody know that victory is because of relying on you and depending on you.”
Let this be our experience. What is our experience of God in our situation?
When we go through sickness, we can say God is our healer.
When we go through anxiety, we can say God is our comfort.
When we are at the crossroads, we can say that God is our wisdom.
Our place of experience can be an altar where we can offer sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving.
No matter what we do, let us not keep that experience to ourselves, let us share it with others so that they will also know that this God is a personal God.
Our Strength, our Security and our Satisfaction lies in our intimate relationship with the Lord.
Let the God of history be the God of our experience.
