Love God Greatly Jamesنموونە

Read: James 3:6-12
SOAP: James 3:8-10
James continues to describe the destructive power of our words and the need for self-control and wisdom when we speak. Criticism, gossip, lies, and outbursts of anger can cause great harm that remains for a lifetime. James teaches us that apart from the power and grace of God, no one can control the tongue.
In what situation or with whom is the Holy Spirit urging you to control your speech? There is great wisdom in limiting our words and allowing our Spirit-led actions and behavior speak for us.
Father God, take control of my mouth. Help me to control my tongue. Give me wisdom and Your discernment to know when to speak and when not to speak. Help my words to reflect Your love so that Your name may be glorified because of Your work in me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

In this 4-week Love God Greatly study, take a deeper look into God’s wisdom when it comes to suffering, the power of prayer, the importance of controlling the tongue, and the danger of wealth. James challenges us to not only talk the talk, but walk the walk; to live out our faith in a bold pursuit of holiness. But because not one of us is perfect, the proper way to read James is through the lens of the gospel.
