Jesus Exposes The Heart - Disciple Makers Series #13نموونە
Our response to a Gentle Messiah
Thoughts on the message
Matthew continues to remind people that Jesus is fulfilling the promises given about the Messiah. This is one the people did not think about as something fulfilled by the Messiah, but it is really important. He is not coming as harsh ruler. He is coming as a gentle servant—full of compassion and healing. Still, He is also coming to bring justice through this gentle behaviour. That is so different than what we think is the right way to bring justice. Justice requires a strong and firm hand against those who seek to avoid truth and justice. Jesus, will do it differently.
So Jesus walks away from a confrontation with the Jewish leaders. He chooses to work with hurting people. He heals and blesses those willing to come to Him. He has not forgotten about the Jewish leaders—their time of correction will come. Still, He gives them time to repent.
Time to Pray
Father, what an amazing example of what You ask of us—to use gentleness as a standard for dealing with conflict and releasing justice. It does not require a strong powerful response to people who challenge our authority; it requires a gentle, healing response. This is something I need to do today. Father, give me this kind of heart. Give me this kind of strength. Give me this kind of vision when I work with difficult people. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
