Can’t Stop Talking About …
What are your friends really into? Kids? A relationship? Their dog? Their job? The second season of whatever on Netflix? Maybe you don’t know. Okay, what can they just not stop talking about? A hobby? Politics? What if we asked them the same question about you?
Keep that in mind.
So, there’s this really great story in Acts 4. By this time, Jesus had gone back to Heaven. As He promised, the Holy Spirit had come and filled His followers with power, new gifts, and as you’ll see, some kind of otherworldly courage. This story follows John and Peter, the closest of Jesus’ friends while He was here on Earth. Peter was the one who got scared and denied Jesus to a young girl while He was being killed. John is the one who liked to make it clear that he was the disciple whom Jesus loved. But something changed about these two after Jesus left, after the Holy Spirit came.
We’ll let you read the story today and decide for yourself what’s going on here—and what you need to take from it. But as you do, don’t miss this part.
The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John … Acts 4:13 NLT
And this part, when these two were commanded by one of the most powerful officials in the region to stop telling people about Jesus.
But Peter and John replied, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him? We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.” Acts 4:19-20 NLT
What can you not stop talking about?
As a follower of Jesus, you have access, through the Holy Spirit, to the same otherworldly courage that John and Peter discovered. Ask Him for boldness, ideas, and names as you step out boldly to share the reason for the hope that you have.
Pray: God, who can I tell about You today? Holy Spirit, please give me so much otherworldly courage that I can’t stop talking about what Jesus did for me.
