The Power of Words
If you are an average American, researchers have found that you will engage in 30 conversations a day and will spend one-fifth of your life talking. In one year’s time, your conversations could fill sixty-six books at 800 pages each. That’s a lot of words.
As we have been learning about God’s restoration process, it’s vital for us to consider the power of our words. Words change things – for good or for evil. Our words have incredible power. They have power in our own lives and they have power to affect the people around us.
So a little self-examination is in order.
- Am I continually being thoughtful with my words, considering the affect they are having on others and myself?
- What kind of atmosphere am I creating around me?
- Are my words proactive or are they reactive?
- Is there anyone I need to apologize to?
PRAYER
Jesus, help me be more thoughtful and deliberate with my words. Forgive me for my lack of self-control in this area. I want my words to build up and not tear down, encourage and not discourage, heal and not wound. Help me to proactively speak life, faith, and encouragement into the hearts of the people around me. Amen.
