Michael Boggs, More Like A Lion - The Overflow Devoنموونە
Our Hallelujah
Have you ever had a bad day? I mean one of those days where nothing goes right? The kind where the air conditioner breaks and costs you a fortune to repair? The kind where you get news you don’t want to hear from the doctor about a family member? These are all things that have made up a few of my bad days.
You know, the truth is, everybody has bad days. That’s just the way life is. We don’t necessarily get a choice in the matter. However, we do get a choice in how we respond to those unwelcomed days. If you’re anything like me, you don’t always feel like praising God in the middle of a bad day. You don’t always feel like singing “hallelujahs” in the midst of circumstances that are less than desirable.
When I feel myself starting to wallow in self-pity, worry or fear and I need something to pull me out of that way of thinking, I turn to the book of Psalms. I have found they serve as a ‘reset’ button for my mind and my heart. I need something that helps me focus on all of God’s blessings instead of all my burdens. Psalm 103 is my favorite.
The beginning of this Psalm talks about all God has done for us. We’re told “not to forget His benefits” or all the good things that come with being a child of God. We’re reminded that we have forgiveness for our sins and healing for our diseases. We are saved when we can’t save ourselves and God grants us love and compassion in exchange for our mistakes.
At the end of the day, nothing can really take our hallelujah. Hell is not strong enough to take that from us. Praise God.
