The Lost Art of Faithfulness
What is faithfulness? The true Biblical definition of faithfulness has been diluted greatly by the world and popular mainstream culture. In many movies and traditional relationships, the definition of faithfulness is a person who is faithful to their partner. But that's just one aspect of faithfulness and is more accurately described as loyalty. What about a worker who always goes to work and never chucks a sickie (Australian term for faking a day off of work for being sick, when you’re not really sick). That's not faithfulness, that's just consistency.
True faithfulness is seen when the Master, in Matthew 25:21, tells his servant "well done, good and faithful servant." His servant had not just been loyal and consistent, but his servant had been fruitful – he had grown what which he’d been given! The servant had taken the five talents his master had entrusted him with and he had multiplied it!
So in your life, what have you been gifted with? Maybe it’s talent, leadership, the gift of hospitality to name a few. Whatever it is, my question is: are you being faithful with it? Are you growing in your gift and developing it, or is it laying dormant in the ground? The ball is in your court. Are you going to be faithful with your gifts or will you be like the servant who is described as lazy and wicked because he did nothing with it?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to be truly faithful and rediscover the lost art of faithfulness in all aspects of us lives. Please help us to identify the gifts and talents you’ve given us and to readily grow and be fruitful with them. Amen.
