Hearing From God in Friendships
It is impossible to put into words the importance of friendships to a Young Adult’s life. The Bible talks about a friend who loves at all times. When we look at our friendships, are we being the friend that the Bible describes? How easy is it to love at all times? I believe it is so easy in the good times, when life is rosy and is going great with all our friends. But what about in times of adversity? When they are going through a really tough time, when they are faced with a challenge, or when they may need your help - what is your response? What about when they've hurt you or failed you? I believe in these times, we have to be a friend that is opposite to the world. We must be a friend who loves always, who is approachable and reliable, who is selfless and willing; to be a friend who is born for adversity. To be a friend who doesn't easily write others off and give up on friendships quickly. I remember a story of Pastor Brian Houston going through an extremely challenging season, but not wanting to burden people. Pastor Rick Warren (Pastor of Saddleback Church) was with him one time and looked him in the eye and said, "Brian, I'm a brother born for adversity. I'm here for you". We can be those types of friends too.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray that You would teach us how to be the true friends that are described in Your Word. That in all seasons of life, we would be the type of friends that are reliable, trustworthy and dependable. Amen.
