Disciplines Of The Kingdom - Disciple Makers Series #6

DAY 1 OF 6

Do you want God to give you what you pray for?

What is the use of praying if all you get is what people think of you and your prayer? I would stop praying very soon. I want God to hear my prayers. I want God to answer when I call to Him! So be careful and pray to God only. This does not mean we pray together with others. Instead it means whenever you pray, you have an audience of one – God.

Repeating the same prayer over and over and over…. They do not know which prayer God will finally choose to hear and maybe respond to. So they pray the same things. God knows before we ask.

Can we keep praying the same prayer? Well Jesus said it is okay to do it (Luke 18:7), but be careful. Do it in faith that God only needed to hear it the first time. Do it knowing that it is for us – to remind ourselves that we will not forget we asked God. Do it like we do our daily exercise – so we keep strong. Do it because there is often revelation from God that helps us pray it with greater understanding and wisdom. Do it knowing that delayed prayer is often a door to greater understanding of God and His ways for us.

Time to Pray

Father, teach me to pray. It is too easy to pray for the wrong reasons and with the wrong understanding. It is my time with You and in Your presence. It is my time to tell You what is happening in my life and to hear Your words for this day. If I am not careful, it becomes a time of me giving You my list of needs. I want it to be much more than that. I want to express a thankful heart for things You have done, for learning more about Your heart and strengthening my time with You. So this is my prayer today - in Jesus’ name Amen.

About this Plan

Disciplines Of The Kingdom - Disciple Makers Series #6

Matthew writes to God’s people and walks them on a journey that will take them from where they are to being Disciple Makers.  This is the 6th of 27 devotional plans walking us through the book of Matthew.  Jesus describes the three disciplines of His Kingdom rules.  The three disciplines of Giving, Praying and Fasting are laid out for us.  We also begin the “Do’s and Don’ts” of Kingdom living.
