Growing Through Perseverance

DAY 7 OF 7

DO YOU WANT TO MAKE A BIG SPLASH?

Do you want to do something that’ll change the world? The best way to achieve something great may be to think small.

I remember a camping trip my family took a few summers back. We’d no sooner arrived at the campsite when my boys leapt from the car to throw rocks into a nearby pond. My oldest son, Trent, muscled the largest stones he could find into the water. The bigger the splash, the bigger he wanted the next rock to be. Troy, his younger brother, was having fun tossing handfuls of pebbles. That’s when I noticed something. The initial splash of Troy’s pebbles were nowhere near as dramatic as the bigger rocks. But the ripples they created across the water’s surface expanded outward almost as far as the larger rocks.
The course of history is often determined by people who make a big splash. But even if you feel like a small pebble, God can still work through you to make a positive mark on people’s lives and help you achieve far more than you ever dreamed possible. You see, for every Martin Luther King, Jr. or Abraham Lincoln, there stands a mother, a father, a grandparent, a teacher, or a good friend.

Each of us has a role to play. You might feel your splash has gone mostly unnoticed. But take heart. God’s Word promises that even a cup of cold water offered in His name can change someone’s life. It could be something as simple as your love, encouragement, or wisdom that sets a person free to make a big splash in their world.

About this Plan

Growing Through Perseverance

Our paths through life are rarely straight. Setbacks will come. What matters is how we handle those moments. Do we get discouraged and lose heart for our journey with God? A better choice is to seek strength for our weaknesses. Growth isn’t easy, but as we submit to Him, He’ll empower us to live for Him right where we are – in our city, in our neighborhood, and in our homes.
