Honor God With Balance in Your Life: Food, Part 2
Alas, there is a food dysfunction even worse than gluttony, and that is anorexia and its cousins. Some people, mostly girls and young women, are so terrified of being considered fat that they subconsciously decide that food is their enemy. They compulsively starve themselves to the point of destroying organ tissue.
Anorexia is just part of Satan’s larger goal of getting people to hate themselves. Our Savior Jesus came into our lives to restore our joy. He has chosen to love us and assure us that we are precious and valuable to him. His gospel reduces our self-hatred and teaches us to like ourselves again.
You may know a young woman with an eating disorder. You can be the Savior’s voice to her, a kind and encouraging voice of unconditional love and acceptance. You can pass on God’s approval and help a broken and self-hating person to like herself again. “Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God” (Romans 15:7).
