Honor God With Your Relationships: Falling in love
What could be more romantic than the notion of falling in love? We are all in love with the concept of love as an irresistible, magnetic force. We all love the romantic notion that there is that one, special, magic person out there for us, and we all fantasize about being swept off our feet by that person.
Falling, however, means that you are out of control. Falling means that you may really hurt yourself, and others, when you land. “King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women. . . . They were from nations about which the LORD had told the Israelites, ‘You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods.’ Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love . . . and his wives led him astray” (1 Kings 11:1-3).
Read Genesis chapter 24 to find a better way. Abraham helped his son Isaac find a life partner who would reinforce his faith and keep him connected to the true God. Choosing to love is better than falling. We can love with our hearts . . . and our minds.
