Honor God by Taking Care of His Temple: Getting some rest
Just about everybody knows it’s bad to be lazy. You know the Bible’s law about “no work, no eat,” right? Well, the opposite is just as bad. Workaholics can do real damage to themselves and their families. People who endlessly feel guilt about downtime need to be given permission to rest.
The Lord Jesus himself went on at least four retreats so that he could rest up and recharge for the rigors of his ministry and the final ordeal. He took the opportunity to sleep when his body needed refreshing, even when the storm-tossed disciples thought he should have stayed awake: “Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion” (Mark 4:38).
Your life is a marathon, not a sprint. Take care of your temple. It’s okay to delegate. It’s okay to leave some things for tomorrow. It’s okay to let God run things overnight. Practice letting go every day. Close your eyes without guilt.
