Life Experiences: Lessons From the Book of Lukeনমুনা
The One Thing that is needed!
Martha and Mary, of the books of the Gospels, were sisters and both were followers of Christ. The same as they maybe, they were still completely different in the ways they choose their priorities.
Martha was the type of a woman who chooses to be busy with things that has to be done. That was not bad at all because if no one did what she was doing, there will be no food for meal, sleeping place would not be ready and welcoming important guests, like Jesus, will not be favorable at all.
Mary, on the other hand, was a woman who chooses to listen to Jesus.
Jesus identified Martha's characteristic as a worrier, which drove her to become a busy body. She worries on the concerns of the day and the concerns about tomorrow. Aside from that she was also a complaining body who compared herself with her sister.
Jesus pointed out to her that Mary chooses the 'only one thing that is needed'...which was a better choice and that was listening to the Words of Jesus. Mary knew that Jesus' Words give life. Those Words satisfy and provide the assurance for the cares of the day and the concerns of tomorrow.
Prayer for Today: Father in heaven thank You for telling me to choose the ONLY ONE THING THAT IS NEEDED, which is Your Word! Thank You that You tell me to choose it because it will make me be assured of my present concerns and my future's needs!
God in times that I might lack the desire for Your Word please give me the thirsting and hungering for it! Let me always long to listen to it, to savor it and love it. In Jesus name...
