Why Jesus? Because We Need a Saviour

Have you ever felt stuck? Like no matter how hard you try, you can’t fix something in your life? Maybe it’s a habit, a mindset, or a situation beyond your control. The truth is, all of us need help. And this is exactly why Jesus came.

From the very beginning, humanity has struggled with sin and brokenness. Romans 5:12 tells us that through Adam, sin entered the world, and with it, death and separation from God. But God loved us too much to leave us that way. John 3:16 declares, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

In Mark’s Gospel, we see three powerful encounters that illustrate our need for a Saviour:

1. The Bound – A boy tormented by an unclean spirit. Just like this boy, many of us are trapped—by addictions, fears, or past wounds. But Jesus has authority to break every chain.
2. The Self-Reliant – The rich young ruler thought he was doing everything right, yet he trusted in his wealth more than God. How often do we try to fix things ourselves instead of surrendering to Jesus?
3. The Blind – Bartimaeus knew he couldn’t see, but many people today don’t realize their spiritual blindness. 2 Corinthians 4:4 says, “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers.” But turning to Jesus brings sight and clarity.

These stories remind us that we are bound, self-reliant, and blind without Jesus. Yet, the Good News is that Jesus doesn’t just help, He saves. On the Cross, He paid the price for our sin so that we could be free.

Take a moment today to ask God: “Where am I still trying to save myself? Where do I need to let Jesus be my Saviour?” Surrender those areas to Him in prayer.
