Breakfast by the Sea

After everything that had happened—Jesus’ arrest, His crucifixion, and even His resurrection—the disciples weren’t sure what to do next. So, they went back to what was familiar. They went fishing.

They spent the entire night out on the water, but they caught nothing. Then, just as the sun was rising, a voice called from the shore: “Throw your net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” They did what was suggested, and suddenly, their nets were overflowing with fish. It was in that moment that John recognized the voice. “It is the Lord!”

Peter didn’t hesitate. He jumped into the water and swam to Jesus while the others rowed the boat back to shore. When they arrived, Jesus was waiting for them. He had a fire going, with fish and bread already prepared. I love this! If I put myself in the sandals of the disciples this would have been amazing!

Jesus doesn't give them a lecture. He doesn't ask why they had gone back to fishing. Instead, He invited them to sit and eat. “Come and have breakfast.” I think we could probably learn something from this. When things haven't gone the way we think the should or wish they would and we are disappointed, make some breakfast. I am usually less disappointed after I've had some pancakes...

This moment shows so much about Jesus' heart. He meets us in our confusion, in our waiting, and even in our failures. He provides for us even when we can’t see how. And more than anything, He welcomes us to simply be with Him.

Maybe you’ve been in a season of waiting, wondering what’s next. Maybe you’ve felt like you’ve failed or like you don’t know where to turn. Jesus is already on the shore, waiting for you. He’s not mad. He's not yelling. He just wants you to come and have some breakfast with Him.

His invitation is the same today as it was that morning by the sea: Come and have breakfast.
